General information about paintballs:
Paintballs are a living, breathing product, much like fruit in the fresh produce section of a supermarket. If chosen and handled correctly, they provide a great deal of enjoyment; if handled incorrectly, problems can arise.
⦁ Paintballs should be stored at temperatures between +15°C and +25°C in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight.
⦁ The gelatine shell absorbs moisture from the air, causing the paintballs to swell, soften and increase in size: therefore, always seal the bags tightly. This rule also applies whilst on the field during a game day.
⦁ Gelatine becomes brittle in cold conditions (below +10°C) and is therefore more prone to breaking.
⦁ Gelatine becomes soft in heat (above +30°C) and is therefore less brittle.
Paintballs that are 'too brittle' should therefore be warmed up carefully, and 'too hard' paintballs should be cooled slightly in a controlled manner to adjust their properties as desired.
Example of use:
It is a cold spring morning, with an outside temperature below +5°C, and the paintballs are bursting in the barrel.
Warm the bags up in a warm car and fire them off before they cool down. This significantly reduces the problems.
Alternatively, buy paintballs with a winter formula or specifically designed winter paintballs straight away.
Buying paintballs is, like buying fruit, vegetables or meat, a matter of trust; you can rarely tell a paintball's true properties just by looking at it. That is why strict quality controls, safe transport and a clear understanding of your needs are essential to ensuring you are happy with the product.
The most expensive paintball is always the one that doesn't work!
